Harmony and Dissonance

An experiment to highlight the metaphors we use to conceptualise sound experience. Basic and ingrained metaphors for sound such as ‘high’, ‘low’, ‘smooth’, ‘harsh’, are presented with moving image at odds to create a kind of dissonance; a simple form moving downwards is accompanied by ‘upwards‘ sound. This work attempts to highlight the dependency of sound experience to the structuring metaphors we use to conceptualise it.
